Avonite Surfaces

www.avonitesurfaces.com

Since 1983, Anonite Surfaces have been a pioneer in solid surfacing, known for their unbridled passion and spirited innovations.

Over the years, they have established new product benchmarks, including realistic textures, recycled products, and rich collections inspired by glass, concrete, precious metals, and other natural materials.

COMPOSITION & MATERIALS
Avonite Surfaces is a patented, non-porous homogenous blend of either polyester or acrylic alloys and fillers. This creates a surfacing material that looks like stone but cuts like wood. The grain pattern goes all the way through which allows for three dimensional shaping.

C/T/T/P

Avonite surfaces are available in many colours, from natural minerals, to metallics. A complete selection of granite, gemstone, crystelles, glass and architectural solids are available. Many of the materials are recycled. See below-

Uses

Their surfaces have become international favorites in leading hotels, resorts, specialty restaurants, and unique corporate environments. They're equally well known for distinctly personal residential projects. Because the material can be worked with conventional wood- working power tools, the design possibilities are unlimited. Countertops, wall cladding, furniture, mouldings, architectural signage and accessories can be beautifully created with a guarantee of durability.

LIMITATIONS
Many Avonite Surfaces products are suitable for exterior use. Contact Technical Services regarding limitations and approvals for exterior applications. Do not use in areas exposed to sustained temperatures in excess of 375°F (CI) or 260°F (CIII). Seaming with joint adhesive should not be performed when the ambient temperature of the work area is below 55°F (13°C).

SIZES: Avonite Surfaces Studio Collection™ sheets are available in 36” (915mm) width by 120” (3048mm) length. Foundations™ acrylic solid surfacing is available in 30” (762mm) width by 144” (3658mm) length. Custom sizes are available on special order.

THICKNESS
All Avonite Surfaces sheets are available in standard thickness of 1/2” (12mm). Foundations™ are available in 1/2” (12mm) and 1/4” (6mm) thicknesses.

FINISH: The factory finish of Avonite Surfaces is a matte finish approximating 220 grit sandpaper. A satin sheen or a high polish can be obtained by buffing with prescribed polishing compounds.

WEIGHT: Avonite Surfaces sheet stock in 1/2” (12mm) thickness weighs approximately 4.0 lbs. per sq. ft. in the Class I rated materials (CI and F1). Class III sheets weigh approximately 3.1 lbs. in 1/2” (12mm) thickness (G3 and K3).

Architectural Textiles Ltd

Quality, natural textile wallcoverings. Now in its third decade, Phillip Jeffries Ltd. has emerged as the industry leader in handcrafted wallcoverings. Phillip Jeffries Ltd. stocks more than 800 natural wallcoverings including Japanese Paper Weaves, Gold Leaf, Grasscloth, Hemps, Silks, Linens, Granite, and Raffia as well as many unique handcrafted specialities.

RIVETS

Adding another dimension to wallcoverings is the RIVETS collection. Hand crafted by artisans, a raised relief pattern made with pearlized inks is hand applied to our natural Manila Hemp, Glazed Abaca, Linen and Jute wallcoverings to create the look and feel of authentic nail heads. Strong and bold, this pattern of 11.3” squares is available in nine unique colour combinations that are truly riveting!

GEOLOGY

Phillip Jeffries Ltd. introduces a new way to cover walls with GEOLOGY. Authentic honed real slate is sold in a flexible panel format, creating a one-of-a-kind wall statement. A patented precision process creates a micro thin “veneer” of real slate reinforced by a flexible fiberglass resin backing.

Available in 2 panel sizes; Panel A: 30 cm x 60cm & Panel B: 60cm x 120cm.

GRECIAN SQUARES

Step back in time with the classic and mythical GRECIAN SQUARES collection. Hand crafted by artisans, each 13.5” square is hand cut and laminated onto a non-woven backing for a unique parchment effect. Four layers of coloured and metallic inks are hand applied to create depth and drama. Available in seven colorations, the collection is fit for the gods.

METALLIC WEAVE

Metallic & lacquered glam meets hand woven texture in the METALLIC WEAVES collection. Handcrafted in Japan, this innovative collection includes Metallic Paper Weaves, Lacquered Weaves & Linen Weaves – all yarn-dyed prior to weaving. The result: colour consistency and a virtually seamless effect. Wovens ranging from warm caramel and cool grey paper weaves to natural linens, the materials are laminated onto a selection of either metallic gold, silver or copper backings. There are also shiny black lacquered weaves for a tease of shimmer and shine that peeks through the natural fibres.

LACQUERED STRIÉ

Imagine your walls dripping with high gloss lacquer with a vertical texture! Out 54” Type II vinyl LACQUERED STRIÉ is embossed with a vertical strié pattern that is virtually seamless. Too luxurious not to fall in love with, the LACQUERED STRIÉ is conveniently matched with coordinating solids.

eluna

http://www.eluna.uk.com/

Using glass bottles and float glass from the domestic and industrial waste stream, eluna provides ethical alternatives to natural stone, such as marble and granite, and man- made materials i.e. resin. Not only are the low carbon footprint, recycled glass bricks environmentally friendly, they are also extremely beautiful to both look at and touch.

Colour

Using no additives, colour depends on the choice of glass selected, but opacity, finish and visual effects can be carefully controlled via the size of cullet selected and the kilning process.

Form & Uses

Surfaces such as tiles, paviours, worktops, cladding facades and now also beautiful bricks to build walls are available in an expanded colour range. eluna offers a standard choice and bespoke solutions which can be produced as cast and polished forms to sizes up to 3 x 1 meter and to 20-50mm depth.
Examples of use in industry

In 2003 eluna secured its most prestigious order to date when it was contracted to produce three bespoke glass wall installations comprising 1600 individual glass sections for Kamakura house, Japan - a Foster & Partners Architects project.

Hothouse is the Free Form Arts Trust’s centre for regeneration through the arts and creative industries in London Fields, Hackney. The floor lighting provides a visual division between the entrance lobby and the large exhibition space, demonstrating how eluna glass can be used as under-lit flooring to delineate flexible space.

Technical
Using the ‘glassmaker’s curse’ (crystallization) as an advantage, the fusing of the cullet (chips of glass) during the kilning process creates a matrix with a fantastically strong bond – giving the glass bricks a compressive strength of up to 38 kN.
(A standard concrete paving slab has strength of 4 kN.)

How do you fix them?
As a general note Green Bottle Units glass products can be fixed as you would fix standard pavers and tiles. This may vary depending on circumstance and application. Below is a guideline to help you.
Please take care in handling of tiles and pavers because they are glass and if broken may have sharp edges.
